The initiative seeks for the Legislature to discuss his permanence in office after the questions linked to the case Chifagate. For the session to be completed, 78 backups are needed.
In recent hours, sources from La República indicated that congressmen Jorge Marticorena and Juan Carlos Lizarzaburu from the Alliance for Progress bench had signed the document that seeks to debate the seven motions of censure against the president.
The request was formalized by Renovación Popular on January 21 through Official Letter No. 043-2025-2026-GPRP/CR. The document requests an urgent session to evaluate the censorship against the president of Congress. The motion is based on unofficial meetings that Jerí held on December 26, 2025 and on January 6 with the Chinese businessman Zhihua Yang.
At first, the lack of support from Fuerza Popular and Alliance for Progress (APP) seemed to ensure the permanence of José Jerí. Both banks, linked to Keiko Fujimori and César Acuña, had not signed the request. Without their votes, the correlation of forces favored the head of state.

However, since last February 5, sources from the Congress They confirmed that 60 signatures were reached. Among the new endorsements were Roberto Kamiche and Idelso García, from Alianza para el Progreso, as well as Juan Burgos, from Podemos Perú. Kamiche became the first legislator from the Acuña bench to sign the request for Extraordinary Plenarywhich shows internal fissures.
In statements to Radio Bethel, Kamiche indicated that he signed the request due to the events involving Mr. Jerí and the lack of explanations to the country. “From the person who sweeps the streets to the president of the Republic, we are public employees. We have a moral obligation to the country. Following the guidelines of the president of my party, César Acuña, who is not going to continue supporting these actions, I signed the petition for Mr. Jerí to come and give explanations to Congress,” he stated.
