Congressman Jorge Zeballos Aponte presented a bill that proposes extending the validity of ordinary electronic passports to 10 years for Peruvian citizens residing abroad.
It should be noted that Passports issued outside Peru are valid for 5 years, while those issued in the country are valid for 10 years.
The initiative of the legislator of the Renovación Popular party modifies the Sole Complementary Transitory Provision of Law No. 31678, which regulates the duration of electronic passports.
The legislative proposal also seeks benefit citizens who have already applied for passports valid for five years.
The argument is eliminate discrimination against Peruvians abroad regarding the duration of their passports, guaranteeing equal conditions with those who reside in the country.
Biometric passport abroad
If you are a Peruvian citizen of legal age who is abroad and would like to apply for your electronic passport, you can request it at the consular offices of the country where you are located.
If your passport is lost, destroyed, damaged or stolen, and you are in an emergencyyou can obtain a safe conduct pass at the Consulate to return to Peru or your place of residence.
Conditions:
- The passport is valid for a maximum of 5 years.
- If you are legally incapacitated, you must be accompanied by your legal representative.
- If your representative has obtained the declaration of legal representation through a foreign authority, the passport can only be processed at the Consular Office that has the district in the territory where said representation has been determined.
