Congress Peace Commission will go to Catatumbo to listen to the community

This Tuesday the members of the Peace Commission of the Congress of the Republic have planned to move to the municipality of El Tarra, in Norte de Santander, to verify firsthand the serious public order situation that occurs in the Catatumbo region.

The parliamentarians will advance a public hearing in which they will listen to the community that is being a victim of murders and forced displacementwhich led the government to decree the state of interior shock.

Senator Iván Cepeda said that, “we will be accompanying the population of Catatumbo, its organizations and social movements. We will listen carefully to the complaints that are being presented in relation to the facts of violence which have occurred as of January 16-17 when the ELN undertook a violent incursion into several municipalities in the Catatumbo area and also the clashes that have taken place with the so-called dissidents, the situation about forced displacement, the situation that there are about the murder of social leaders, peace signatories. ”

Cepeda said they will document the complaints they receive during their visit to the Catatumbo, to present them to the corresponding agencies. “We are going to register with care all these facts of the Congress of the Republic, of the Peace Commissions, of International Organizations and also of other human rights organizations and the Colombian State”said.

From the Peace Commission of the Congress They called on illegal armed groups to leave violent actions and that they are clear about the possibility or not to seek a negotiated exit to the armed conflict.

“Our clamor is to cease violence immediatelythat the civilian population is respected and that the ELN makes a deep reflection, I say this in my case that I am part of the government negotiating team at the table that is suspended with this guerrillas, about the future.
