Once the opinion is approved, it will go to the plenary session to be voted on by the deputies.

Since 2007, voluntary abortion has been allowed in the capital within the first 12 weeks of gestation. After this period, the woman or pregnant person is punished with between three and six months in prison or 100 to 300 days of community work, in accordance with Article 145 of the local Penal Code.

The initiative presented by local representative Yuriri Ayala, from Morena, proposes eliminating Article 144, which indicates the 12-week restriction, as well as 145.

What would be punished is causing an abortion to a woman or pregnant person without her consent, with a penalty of five to eight years in prison, which increases to between eight and 10 years in prison in the case of the use of violence, according to is proposed in article 146.

This reform was supported in its presentation in October by the parliamentary groups of Morena, PT and PVEM, as well as Movimiento Ciudadano and PRD; However, the PAN has spoken out against it.
