To begin the World Congress in Defense of Mother Earth, a reforestation day will be held with the planting of more than 63 thousand trees nationwide; This was announced by the Minister of Popular Power for Ecosocialism, Ricardo Molina, in his participation in the program “Al Aire”, broadcast by Venezolana de Televisión (VTV).
Molina reported that throughout the entire Waraira Repano nine (9) points will be deployed where reforestation will be carried out and “20 thousand trees will be planted in which all national and international delegates will participate together with the people, park rangers, forest firefighters and the communes of these sectors so that we can start the congress in a different way.”
He highlighted that after the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, proposed the holding of the Congress, “there has been tremendous receptivity for two reasons: one because the popular, environmentalist and ecosocialist movements of the world do not have an audience, how to communicate, where they can express their voice and this is a conducive space for that; In addition, it is a space where more than 2,400 national spokespersons who are members of the Ecosocialism Councils of the Communal Self-Government Chambers and the ecosocialist socialist movements of Venezuela will participate for the first time.
The head of the Ecosocialism portfolio highlighted that whatever is discussed and agreed upon in Congress, the commitment will be for “Venezuela to be a spokesperson for what organized peoples think, especially the Global South, regarding the climate crisis and what approach they aspire to take to COP30.”
The World Congress in Defense of Mother Earth will be a scientific and popular meeting. In which social and environmental movements are invited. This will allow them to debate with diverse visions the rights of Mother Earth, the protection of waters, and the right of people to satisfy human needs with equity and respect for nature.
