In a statement released through its social networks, the Legislative Branch distances itself from the accusations of lack of collaboration in the case and the deliberate elimination of the recordings, ensuring that this procedure is established in previous directives.

“The system of Congress stores video recording information for a period of 25 days, as stipulated in Directive 030-2023. (…) After this period, the system operates automatically, proceeding to overwrite the oldest data to guarantee daily recording. (…) This automatic process implies that the oldest data is deleted only to make way for the new recordings; There is no manual intervention or modification in the system,” the statement reads.

The statement comes in response to the request made by the congressman Juan Burgos ( Podemos Peru ), president of the Oversight Commissionto the senior officer of Congress, Giovanni Fornowho was required to deliver the videos from the security cameras corresponding to the period between July 1 and August 31 in the Legislative Complex located on Abancay Avenue, in the Center of Lima.

In line with what was stated in the statement, Forno responded to Burgos pointing out that the images cannot be delivered because they have already been deleted: “Due to the low storage capacity of the equipment that the institutional video surveillance system has, (… ) only information from the last twenty-five days is saved, and previous files are deleted (…) Therefore, it is not possible to meet the request required in the reference document,” indicated the senior congressional official.

Jorge Torres Saravia: Oversight Commission continues investigating the case involving congressional officials
