The plenary sessions of the Chamber of Deputies and the Federal Senate were closed on Wednesday night (13) after the explosion record near the Federal Supreme Court building, in Brasília. According to the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco, the Legislative Police of both houses are helping to investigate the circumstances of the incident.
He also stated that security at the two houses is being reinforced. “It is time to assess the circumstances and for everyone to exercise due caution and precautions. It is natural that, given the event that was reported, it is obvious that all security forces must be on alert at this moment.”
Pacheco regretted what happened and the death of a person. “I am sorry if someone has died, we express all our solidarity and mourn without knowing the circumstances.”
He also recalled the events of January 8, 2023, when hundreds of people invaded and vandalized public buildings in Brasília. “It was very sad and relevant and changed all the security standards of the Three Powers.”
The 2nd vice-president of the Chamber, deputy Sóstenes Cavalcante (PL-RJ), suspended the session after receiving information about the explosions and death. “We have security guards at all access points to guarantee our exit from here to our homes,” he said.
