With 98 votes in favor, the Congress Plenary approved this Wednesday a replacement text for bills 8530 and 8653, which establishes mandatory identification for foreigners in Peruvian territory.
The proposal, which was exempt from a second vote, introduces measures to ensure that foreigners can prove their immigration status and respond to identification requests from the competent authorities.
The legislative initiative establishes sanctions for foreigners who fail to comply with identification requirements. In these cases, violators could be expelled from the country.
The law specifies three cases in which foreigners would be subject to this sanction:
In addition, it is noted that foreigners who carry out activities that threaten or put at risk public security, internal order, national security and citizen security will be expelled.
