The Board of Speakers of Congress agreed to conclude the election of the ombudsman and to form a new Special Commission responsible for the selection of candidates for this important position, informed the president of the Legislative, Joseph Williams Zapata. with that ad closed the plenary session that will resume today.
congressman Manuel Garcia (APP), head of the Special Commission for the election of the ombudsmanreported to The Republic that in the Board of Spokespersons there was consensus for the suspension of the selection processconsidering that there were delays due to the precautionary measure of the Power of attorney (Third Constitutional Court of Lima), which they considered an interference in the work of the Legislature.
“We had sent three proposals, but there was no consensus and the 87 votes needed to elect the ombudsman were not reachedand before the interference of the Judiciary, the Board of Spokespersons decided that it would be better to appoint a new commission to elect that authority. We couldn’t do more as a commission,” he declared.
After last October 6 none of the proposed applicants will reach the required 87 votes, Carlos David Castro Barriga, Jorge Luis Rioja Vallejos and Beatriz Ramírez Huaroto remained as candidates., according to the order of merit. Previously, the former Minister of Justice and former President of the Constitutional Court, Víctor García Toma, declined to participate in the election process for the new Ombudsman.
When it was thought that the candidates would be subjected to plenary vote, the representatives of the caucuses decided to terminate the process, which is considered a correct measure by Congressman García Correa. “A selection process based on consensus and transparency will be sought”, he assured.
They reject censorship of Alejandro Muñante
At the beginning of the plenary, with 52 votes in favor, 59 votes against and 1 abstention, the admission to debate of the motion of censure to the third vice president was rejected congressional, Alexander Munante (Popular Renovation), who is accused of promoting a message of hate, by allowing the presence of a truck with the logo of the Organization of American States (OAS), with the message: “Women are defined by biology, not ideology”.
Susel Paredes (Integrity and Development), who was in favor of the censorship of Muñanteconsidered terrible and reprehensible that the dignity of a position is used to send messages that mistreat some Peruvian: “I ask each of the congressmen to vote in favor of this censorship.”
In his defense, Muñante maintained that they not only want to censor him, “but all Peruvians who dare to question the dictatorship of the single thought, which they intend to impose by force of the State.”
“They do not support the diversity of ideas, intellectual diversity terrifies them, we are free and that freedom does not depend on the State or on anyone. biology does not discriminate. We have the right to express our ideas, even if others don’t like it”, he pointed out.
