Confrontation in a Mexican stadium leaves at least 17 dead

In Mexico, a confrontation between supporters of the Querétaro and Atlas teams left at least 17 dead and more than 20 injured, according to information released by the media in the North American country.

For its part, the Coordination of Civil Protection of the State of Querétaro indicated through its twitter account that at least 22 people were injured as a result of the clashes between the fans of Querétaro and the Atlas in the Corregidora Stadium.

The 63rd minute of the match between Querétaro and Atlas de Guadalajara was played when a confrontation began in the stands between fans of both clubs.

Given the inability to resolve the facts, the security elements of the stadium opened the accesses to the field so that people could get to safety with the game underway.

The episode of violence led to the suspension of the game and was condemned by the governor of the state of Querétaro, the media and representatives of the Mexican soccer league.

“I strongly condemn today’s violence at the Corregidora Stadium. The company that owns Gallos and the institutions must answer for the events,” Governor Maurició Kuri wrote.

“I have given instructions so that the law is applied with all its consequences. In Querétaro there is no impunity,” added Kuri.

The president of the Mx League, Mikel Arreola, also spoke out against the acts of violence in the Querétaro stadium and stated that those responsible for the lack of security in the sports facility will be punished. “The safety of our players and fans is a priority,” said Arreola.

After the confrontation and the suspension of the sporting event, dozens of videos circulated on social networks with violent scenes of beatings against Atlas fans, in some it was possible to see that people were left unconscious and bleeding as a result of the blows.
