Santo Domingo.-The director of Penitentiary and Correctional Services of the Attorney General’s Office, Roberto Santanareported this Saturday that the inmates of the Correctional Center of The Vines They have threatened to “peck” the prisoners of the fraud committed in the National Health Insurance (Senasa) if they take them to the common areas.
“The prisoners say that if I take them there, they will peck them” and that because of this situation they are kept separated.
He said that his role is to ensure that they are safe and viable, to face the judicial process without any type of privileges.
A new group of 600 inmates from La Victoria prison already occupy the Las Parras Correctional Center, in the Guerra municipality.

He said that what has simply been done is that they have put the prisoners in an isolated place.
He maintained that both the prisoners and the people on the streets are outraged by this case.
Santana, assured that the former director of Senasa, Santiago Hazimand others involved in the alleged embezzlement from that institution are kept under a “special condition” within the prison system, for security reasons.
The inmates linked to the case are separated from the general population, because there is a high risk of retaliation against them if they share the same space with other prisoners.
“They are separated from the common population, I can say it in a technical, protocol or plain way,” he said.
Some 600 prisoners from the La Victoria prison are already imprisoned in the Las Parras prison.
At the time of their transfer, some of them saw it as the end of a hard and long wait.
The transfer took place amidst hubbub and improvised farewells.
