Prosecutor Alcides Giménez Zorrilla represents the Public Ministry in an oral trial for a case of femicide, which began on Thursday, September 15, in the Judicial Power of the capital of Alto Paraná. The hearing began with the testimony of the prosecution witnesses.
The defendant, Mohamed Kamel Alloul Candia (25), is exposed to up to 30 years of imprisonment. He emerges as the alleged perpetrator of the crime of his partner Carolina Marecos Samudio (27), with whom he lived for a short time.
Background to the murder
The case occurred on Sunday, June 6, 2021, but was only discovered on Tuesday, June 8, with the arrest of the suspect and the discovery of the victim’s body.
According to the records, 10 days before the event, the victim and perpetrator began life together in the home of the accused’s parents, in a building located at kilometer 7 Acaray in the Las Carmelitas neighborhood of Ciudad del Este.
On the day of the murder, the youths had lunch with Mohamed’s family, then at approximately 1:00 p.m., they left the house and presumably went to a park, located behind the Hotel Gran Novile, in a huge vacant lot near a wooded area.
Along the way they began an argument, until Mohamed Alloud seized a stone with which he attacked and allegedly hit the victim several times on the head, until he died. He then dragged the body and dumped it in a ditch.
Then, as if nothing had happened, the young man went to his home. The next day, Monday, June 7, he left his house carrying a backpack as if to go to work, which caught the attention of his mother, considering that he was already alone, without his partner.
During the morning, the alleged criminal wrote from Carolina Marecos’s cell phone to her sister Lourdes Marecos with the aim of misleading her. The text said “Good morning, sister, how are you, today I’m going to the bank to withdraw my money from the scholarship.” This, alluding to the scholarship that the Municipality of Minga Guazú had granted to the young woman.
However, the fact was very strange to her sister because they were called “Mana” and not sister. That same day, at 7:00 p.m., Mohamed’s parents realized that the girl did not appear at the house.
On June 8, in the morning, Reinaldo Marecos López, the young woman’s father, went to the home of Mohamed’s parents, asking about his daughter, who had stopped answering his messages and calls. Obtaining no answer about the whereabouts of his daughter, the man filed a complaint at the local police station about the girl’s disappearance.
At the same time, family members began looking for Mohamed, who was found at the bus station at km 9, apparently with the intention of escaping. However, a brother convinced him to return home, telling him that police authorities wanted to talk to him.
Once in the house, the agents consulted the accused about the whereabouts of his partner, Carolina Marecos. He himself fell into various contradictions, until he confessed that he had killed her. Finally, he showed the place where he dumped the young woman’s body.
The forensic doctor of the Public Ministry, Dr. Ramona García, inspected the body and diagnosed the cause of death as “cranial trauma caused by a blunt weapon.” The professional verified 13 wounds between the head and the face of the victim, who had collapse of the encephalic mass.
The Sentencing Court that is in charge of the oral trial is chaired by Judge Emilia Santos and made up of her peers Flavia Lorena Recalde and Milciades Ovelar. In turn, the defense of the accused is exercised by public defenders, Rodrigo Cuevas Tapari and Marcia Arrúa. The debate will continue on Monday, September 19, in the morning, as announced.
