LIMA, Peru – The Copa América Baseball, scheduled between November 13 and 22 in Panama, has been officially canceled, the Pan American Confederation of that sport reported.
The reason for the cancellation is due to operational and logistical problems in the Panamanian organization, according to communications to the national federations that were going to participate in the tournament.
“Panama regrets the postponement of the 2025 Copa América Baseball. The National Government, through Pandeportes, reaffirms its commitment to sport and to our athletes,” he indicates. a post on X (formerly Twitter) of the Panamanian Sports Institute (Pandeportes).
According to a statement from the entity, the decision is due to contractual disagreements between the World Baseball and Softball Confederation (WBSC) and the international company promoting the event, which prevents compliance with the times established for its execution.
The news has been a bucket of cold water for sports fansto which Pandeportes clarified that Panama was not the organizer of the event.
“The responsibility of the host country was to guarantee the sports venues and the logistics of public services, such as security, traffic, paramedics and other state support. In that sense, the National Government, through Pandeportes, had already coordinated with the different State institutions all the necessary aspects to carry out the tournament,” the statement underlines.
Regarding the possibility of rescheduling the continental event, several media outlets explain that the organizers tried unsuccessfully to place it in 2026, but next year’s competitive calendar is “committed and without dates to be able to carry it out.”
The Copa América Baseball aimed to bring together the best 12 countries in the ranking baseball player of the Americas, except the United States, which from the beginning declined to attend.
The tournament would allocate four places for the Central American and Caribbean Games for Santo Domingo 2026 and five for the Pan American Games in Lima 2027.
