“The behavior has been similar throughout the country, except Tumbes, a fairly strong rise and a fall, which is still a bit”, said the official.
He stated that in the first INS report there were 9 cases, and that to date there are 18.
He noted that the number of cases of Omicron is referential, due to the way of detecting them in the INS, but that the behavior of the disease in the region inferred the presence of this variant.

COVID-19 FIGURES GOING DOWN
Despite this increase in cases detected with this variant, which is highly contagious, in the last week the number of positive COVID-19 cases has decreased rapidly.
Enriquez Cusi said that from January to date they registered 7,582 positives, and that yesterday there were 19 hospitalized with this disease and three in the ICU, in 2022 only 20 died.
But, in comparison with other years, this third wave was less lethal.
“When we compare with other years, in 2020 the fatality rate was 1.4% (there are 260 deaths); in the year 2021, of 15,000 infected, 549 have died, which implies a 3.5% lethality; while in 2022; there are 7 thousand 582 infected of which 20 died, which means a fatality rate of 0.3%, do you realize how it has dropped?”, stated Enriquez.
He narrowed down: “If we talk about terms of hospitalization, in 2020 we have 4.5% of patients with COVID-19 who were hospitalized; in 2021, 12.8% of positive patients were hospitalized and so far this year it is 1.6%. What is that telling us, that the vaccines are working”.
The DIRESA official stated that a vaccine is none, so he urged the population to get both doses.
