The National Agrifood Health and Quality Service (Senasa) confirmed the second positive case of avian influenza highly pathogenic (HPAI) H5 in poultry.
The case was detected in the Buenos Aires town of General Alvear and is added to that of Mainque, in the province of Río Negro, which was confirmed last Tuesday.
The official department reported three other positive cases in backyard birdsone of them in the Buenos Aires town of Las Flores and the other two Laboulaye and Colonia El Árbol, in the province of Córdoba.
Thirty positive cases
With the new confirmed detections There are 30 positive cases out of nearly 200 notifications analyzed by the Senasa laboratories: three in wild birds, 25 in backyard species and two in poultry destined for the commercial sector.
The province with the most cases is Córdoba (15), followed by Buenos Aires (7), Río Negro (2) and Santa Fe (2), while Jujuy, Neuquén, San Luis and Salta presented only one case each for the moment. .
The percentage of positivity was 30.77% since the four positive cases started from the analysis of 13 samples.
Senasa reported in a statement that after confirmation of the cases, agents from the Buenos Aires Norte and Córdoba regional centers “will carry out the corresponding sanitary actions in the affected properties.”
Also, the body “is working on sanitary and raking actions in all regions where the findings were made.”
loss of status
The detection of the first case in poultry reported last Tuesday led to the country’s loss of its disease-free status.
Although the disease is not contracted by eating poultry products such as chicken meat or eggs, Senasa stopped issuing the certificate that must accompany this type of exportaccording to international protocols.
Authorities, professionals and technicians from Senasa are already working in order to achieve the prompt restitution of the country’s status free of the disease, and the resumption of exports: yesterday Japan already enabled the entry of dried egg products from Argentina again, thus resuming partially export to that country.
Where to notify
In case of suspicion clinical signs consistent with influenza in birds or dead domestic or wild birds are found, Senasa requested to notify the fact by going to any of its offices; through the “Senasa Notifications” application or by sending an email to [email protected].
In the same way, you can enter the “Notify Senasa” section of its website or send a message to WhatsApp 11-5700-5704.
“There were restrictions from countries like Japan that were somewhat excessive because the egg products that we have processed are pasteurized and have much less risk than other products. None have a risk and if there were, the thermoprocessed ones have the least because the safety level is higher,” Javier Prida, president of the Argentine Chamber of Poultry Producers, explained to Radio Continental on Friday.
The businessman explained that the role of Senasa was essential for the reopening.
“The Japanese government suspended us because they asked us for additional information. Obviously Senasa did an impeccable and spectacular job, particularly Vice President Rodolfo Acerbi who put the problem on the man and with his different departments has collected information,” added Prida, who anticipated that possibly “today other destinations will rise for egg products including Russia and the European Union.
Prida clarified that after the self-suspension was decreed, the customers “requested information, we have provided it and they automatically told us that if we want to continue bringing merchandise, we should do so because this health status does not affect the commercial certificate that we have agreed upon.”
Regarding the chicken, he indicated that sIt is a different case when “raw meat” is exported without processing but he considered that “some countries should not have a problem receiving it and they are making the same decision that was made with egg products.”
