During the past week (from May 22 to 28), 12,265 cases of covid-19 were confirmed with laboratory tests for a cumulative total of 5,770,862.

89 deaths were also added, bringing the global figure to 324,854, reported the Ministry of Health (Ssa).

Although the number of people with the infection is higher than that reported on Monday the 23rd, when 7,000 cases were added, the epidemic curve remains at the lowest levels since the start of the health emergency. This is so because they are recorded in the statistics on the day they started with symptoms of the disease, which could have been several weeks ago.

In the weekly report on the behavior of the covid-19 pandemic, 1,055 new daily cases of covid-19 were recorded on average; Likewise, it was indicated that 208 million 630 thousand 697 vaccines against SARS-CoV-2 have been applied to just over 88 million people over 12 years of age, who have received at least one dose.

With this figure, the national coverage of biologicals stands at 86 percent. The advance in the group of 12 to 17 years is 52 percent with 6 million 697 thousand 582 individuals who have had at least one dose.

On the other hand, in the administration of booster vaccines, progress is 66 percent.

The Ssa also indicated that this day marked the one year anniversary of the release of the first Latin American vaccine against the coronavirus, which was manufactured in a coordinated manner between Mexico and Argentina.

It was a project sponsored by the Carlos Slim Foundation and the AstraZeneca laboratory that authorized the license for the manufacture of its vaccine. The active substance was made in the mAbxience laboratory in Argentina, while the filling and packaging was carried out by the Liomont laboratory in Mexico.

Yesterday the Ssa held a ceremony to commemorate the date at the Commission for Analytical Control and Extension of Coverage of Cofepris. The Secretary of Health, Jorge Alcocer, the Argentine ambassador to Mexico, Carlos Alfonso Tomada, as well as SSA officials attended.

Alcocer warned that it is time to continue controlling the coronavirus and prepare for a next pandemic or its continuation, which has not ended. He also highlighted that although Latin American countries have the essential capacities to expand local production and reduce gaps in access to vaccines and other strategic supplies, during the pandemic they have only produced 4 percent of what has been required.
