The president of Confiep, Oscar Caipowarned that the exemption from the general sales tax (IGV) for some products in the basic basket will cost the country around S/ 250 million per month.
“[esta medida] It has a high cost in the coffers of the Peruvians. It has been estimated that this can cost S/ 250 million per month. It is a very high cost”said the executive in dialogue with Canal N.
Last night, the Plenary of Congress approved the VAT exemption for chicken, eggs, milk, wheat flour, noodles, sugar and meat products.
The decision was made in the context of the inflation suffered by the country due to the war between Russia and Ukraine, which has raised the price of fuel.
On the other hand, Caipo considered that not addressing the crisis at the Cuajone mine, of Southern Peru, can generate another additional S/ 250 million monthly in losses.
“To that we would have to add what has been lost for one day of Cuajone production, which is S/ 8.5 million between taxes and royalties, which gives around S/ 250 million in a month”he added.
“If the government does not act on time, the cost of alleviating this situation always ends up being higher and finally all Peruvians pay it”he pointed out.
