The president of the Confederation of Private Business Institutions (Confiep), Alfonso Bustamante Cannyasked the government of Dina Boluarte to provide more resources to the institutions responsible for combating common crime and organized crime.
“What is happening in Peru is not an isolated incident. These are major problems that are occurring with increasing frequency. If the Executive does not take the correct actions, we run the risk of this spiral of violence intensifying even further,” warned the head of the aforementioned business association.

He argued that the specialized Intelligence Services must receive sufficient funds so that they can fight crime effectively. He indicated that in 2023 alone, at least 13 thousand shopkeepers across the country have been affected by robbery and extortion.
To this – he stressed – “is added the painful figure of four union leaders in the civil construction sector who have been murdered so far in 2024.”
“It is imperative to strengthen intelligence efforts to combat urban terrorism,” he continued.
He stressed that it is necessary to strengthen strategic and technological capabilities in the fight against citizen insecurity, and commented that using Artificial Intelligence (AI) it would be possible to predict criminal acts.
He also proposed the creation of a legal defense support fund and the modification of legal regulations in order to protect members of the National Police and the Armed Forces who face common crime and organized crime.
