The president of the ConfiepJorge Zapata, urged the Executive to take the bills approved by Congress that involve spending initiatives to the Constitutional Court (TC), as he considered that they put the macroeconomic stability of the country at risk.
During his participation in CADE 2025Zapata warned that Peru’s main asset in the midst of political uncertainty is the solidity of its macroeconomic indicators such as the controlled fiscal deficit, the low level of debt, international reserves and stable inflation.
“We cannot allow regulations that increase the fiscal deficit. We must put a stop to that and not continue expanding public spending, because it will affect the stability that supports the country today,” he said.
Regarding the Ipssos survey that revealed that the Peruvian business sector shows moderate optimism regarding investment, the representative of Confiep this is due to the country’s economic strength, but warned that this could be lost if laws that increase spending without financial support continue to be approved.
On the other hand, he highlighted the commitment expressed at CADE by President José Jerí and the new Minister of Economy with fiscal stability and deficit reduction, as well as the continuity of the deregulatory package initiated in previous administrations.
“We need to continue deregulating the economy to facilitate investment, reduce bureaucracy and promote formality, especially among micro and small businesses,” he added.
Zapata also warned that the excess of procedures and licenses limits the growth of the private sector and asked to prioritize citizen security, which is among the main concerns of businessmen according to the latest Ipsos survey.
“The only thing that sustains the country today is its economic stability. If we lose it, we will lose the confidence of investors,” he remarked.
Confiep, Zapata specified, will hold weekly meetings with the Ministry of Economy and Finance to accompany the measures aimed at preserving fiscal discipline and promoting the country’s competitiveness.
