The National Confederation of Small Mining and Artisanal Mining of Peru (Confemin), —where illegal miners and miners who have not complied with updating their Reinfo—, congratulated Jorge Montero Cornejo for his appointment as Minister of Energy and Mines.
Through a statement, the president of Confemin and activist of Renovación Popular, Franco Bequer, wished success to the new head of Minem and requested an urgent meeting to discuss projects such as the Small Mining and Artisanal Mining Law (MAP).

“We are working on the Small Mining and Artisanal Mining Law project and therefore we need to coordinate with your office some joint actions to facilitate the advancement of the ASM Law in Congress,” the statement reads.
Precisely today, Montero Cornejo announced that the Congressional Energy and Mines Commission and its portfolio would work in an articulated manner and would reach a consensus in less than six months regarding the ASM Law.
“We are going to work not only with the Energy and Mines Commission, but also with small-scale mining unions and with private sector unions, with whom we must also reach a consensus. “This has to be a job for all strata and actors in the mining sector,” said the minister.

At the end of November, Perú21 revealed that the president of Confemin, Franco Bequer, was a member of Renovación Popular, one of the parties whose party voted in favor of the censure of then-minister Rómulo Mucho.
A censorship that led to Mucho’s departure from Minem and, subsequently, to the extension of the Comprehensive Mining Formalization Registry (REINFO) for six months.
