The expressions of condolences for the death of the Minister of the Environment and Natural Resources, Orlando Jorge Mera, continued this Wednesday at the Blandino funeral home on Abraham Lincoln Avenue, where for the second day personalities from the Government, the business community, politics, the National Congress and other sectors of national life.

Emma Polanco, rector of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), Peggy Cabral widow Peña Gómez, senior leader of the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD), Julio César Castaños Guzmán, former president of the Central Electoral Board (JCE) and Servio Tulio Castaños Guzmán, Vice President of the Institutionality and Justice Foundation (Finjus) were among the first to arrive this Wednesday with signs of pain and solidarity for the Jorge Villegas and Jorge Mera families.

Distressed, they highlighted the political, personal and honest, conciliatory and responsible public official qualities of Jorge Mera, who was shot dead last Monday by Miguel Cruz, who entered his office at the Ministry of the Environment armed, a fact that has caused consternation in all sectors of national life.

The expressions of solidarity are received by his wife Patricia Villegas; his sister Lidia Leticia Jorge Mera and his children Orlando and Patricia Victoria Jorge Villegas.

There its leaders and members of the party in power will mount a guard of honor before the coffin, to bid farewell to whoever was the founder of the organization.

Around 2:00 in the afternoon the funeral procession will leave for the Puerta del Cielo cemetery, where he will receive a Christian burial.

The funeral services began yesterday at 12:30 in the afternoon with a body mass present in the San Rafael de Arcángel chapel of the National Palace, with the presence of President Luis Abinader; the first lady Raquel Arbaje and the vice president Raquel Peña. Palace officials, PRM leaders, congressmen, friends and relatives of the family gathered at this religious act, where the pain for the loss of a loved one reached its maximum expression.

President Abinader, Vice President Peña; The Minister of the Presidency, Lisandro Macarrulla, and the Administrative Minister of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza, stood guard of honor for a few minutes before Jorge Mera’s coffin.

The mass was officiated by the priest Fray Frankelis Rodríguez Gómez, parish priest of the Las Mercedes church.

Once the ceremony concluded at the National Palace, at 2:00 in the afternoon, the remains of the deceased minister were transferred to the Blandino funeral home, in the Abraham Lincoln where dozens of personalities paraded, to say goodbye.

Among them, former presidents Hipólito Mejía and Leonel Fernández Reyna; the Attorney General of the Republic, Miriam Germán Brito; the general secretary of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) Charlei Mariotto.

Likewise, the president of the Alianza País Party, Guillermo Moreno; the Minister of Labor, Luis Miguel De Camps and the director of the Santo Domingo Aqueduct and Sewerage Corporation (Caasd), Felipe Suberví.
