A Mexican was chosen this Wednesday as the winner of the second edition of the Pan American Pizza Championship that took place in Buenos Aires and attracted hundreds of pizza masters from all over the American continent.

This is Joshua Serrano, who established himself as the champion of the contest after his proposals stood out before the 18 floor judges and the 30 members of a jury made up of journalists, chefs, cooks and local and international gastronomic references, for his style and final score.

According to agency report Eph, the second place went to the Argentine Matías Iacono and the third place was also taken by Mexico, thanks to David Morales. Cuban Miguel Sánchez, who has lived in Argentina for 17 years and with whom OnCuba talked, he was in fourth place.

In the middle of the tournament, which took place in the Costa Salguero area of Buenos Aires, the winner of the tenth edition of the Argentine Pizza and Empanada Championship was also chosen.

The local “Great Champion” was Cristian Emiliano Abarzua, a native of the province of Neuquén (northwest of Patagonia), who obtained the best average of all the participants and, in addition to winning first place, will be part of the Argentine team to compete next year at the World Pizza Championship.

Above the trophy, Abarzua was awarded one million pesos in prizes from sponsors, while second place went to Demian Pinto, from Buenos Aires, and third place to César Claudio Jaramillo, from Chubut.

The competition brought together a total of 150 pizza masters who represented the United States, Mexico, Cuba, Haiti, Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Paraguay, Brazil, Uruguay, Chile and Argentina. Each of them had to demonstrate their gastronomic skills on a stage equipped with 12 ovens (10 gas and 2 wood).

Both championships were organized by the Association of Pizzerias and Empanada Houses (Apyce), and were held within the framework of the II International Fair of Technology and Raw Materials (Fithep) 2022, a Latin American event that will last until Thursday in Costa Salguero.

On the other hand, the categories “Largest mass” and “Acrobatics (Free style)” took away the clamor of the public for the picturesque ways of preparing the base of a pizza.
