The president of the Popular Party, Daniel Brea, pointed out that the Panamanian public debt that amounts to 31,403 MM$ is worrying and worsened in this government administration, which in the third year of management registered an increase of 25%, marking a new record.
This indebtedness – Brea assured – will result in the fact that in 2023 more than 4,000 MM$ will have to be paid in debt services, which will cause a lack of investment in other items that the country really needs.
He pointed out that the public debt in 2009 was $8,100.00 MM$ and at the end of that governmental period in 2014 the expenses reached the figure of $13,733.00, which represented an increase of 69%.
Subsequently, during the term of President Juan Carlos Varela, the debt increased by 82%, concluding in 2019 with a record figure of $25,066.00 MM.
The politician explained that since 2009 the governments that have held power have caused an accelerated public indebtedness, which worsened with the global respiratory pandemic.
“The government of President Laurentino Cortizo did not make adequate use of the money allocated to face the health crisis and did not have the capacity to transform that debt into proposing an economic recovery process, which is currently being assumed by the private company with the reopening of some businesses and rehiring of labor,” he said.
He pointed out that to really help the population, it is necessary to offer them employment, opportunities for advancement, education and not inefficient support that tries to accustom people to living off the leftovers of millionaire governments that only favor their friends.
He added that it is unfortunate that recent governments have approved budgets of billions of dollars squandered in large payroll payments, money that should have been invested in the construction of aqueducts and sewers, in systems for better garbage disposal, provision of health centers, among others. .
On the other hand, he pointed out that there is no solidarity and no empathy on the part of politicians who are civil servants and seek a position of popular election in 2024. “It seems that the priority is the electoral and not the social, they must be demanded consistency and commitment to the country.
Brea pointed out that it is important to clean up the country and that for this the PP will continue the frontal war against corruption.
