It is possibly the largest nativity scene in the Mantaro Valley, built in a room of more than 50 square meters and with “a number of pieces—according to its creator, Rosmery Pichihua Aiquipa—impossible to calculate.”
20 years ago he put together the nativity scene and accumulated thousands of pieces.
This impressive representation is located in Matahuasi (Concepción). It is not only made up of religious figures, but also by dances and customs such as the tunantada, morenada, the shapish, avelinos and other cultural manifestations.
Morenos and Chinchilpos are present in decoration.
“I have had some of the pieces for 20 years and every Christmas my living room was already packed, you couldn’t even get in. Since then I have been putting together the nativity scene and it has been this big for three years.”says the mother of the family and catechist from Concepción.
Armed birth in a 50 square meter room.
Rosmery also comments that the inclusion of the dances in the manger responds to their importance in the region: “In the Mantaro Valley there are always dances; with devotion and a lot of respect, they are welcomed at birth”.
Tunantada shines next to the manger.
Assembling a manger of these proportions can take up to three months. It not only represents the birth of Jesus Christ, but also each of the biblical passages: from the annunciation to Mary to the flight from Bethlehem with Jesus and Joseph.
