Santo Domingo.- The National Health Coordinator (Conasalud), entity that brings together more than a hundred organizations in the health sector, on Wednesday made a peaceful demonstration in front of the headquarters of the National Health Service (SNS) to demand immediate compliance with the commitments assumed by the government authorities.
The plant was supported by important unions such as Association of Health Psychologists (ASOPSALUD), The group of graduated nurses of the SNS (AEGIDS-SNS), the Association of Pensioners and Retiree Nurses (Asodepyj) and the Dominican College of Bioanalists (Codobio)among others.
Main demands from Conasalud to the Government and the SNS
Health unions demand immediate responses due to the lack of advances in agreements endorsed by the Health Cabinetheaded by the vice president Raquel Peña, and the Minister of Public Health, Víctor Atallah.
Among the most critical points of the claim agenda are payment of incentives for seniority in the service, toPlication of 10% salary increase still pending for much of the staff, Appointments and designation changes necessary to guarantee the coverage of services.
In addition, hospitals and supply of essential medical supplies, reclassification of positions according to real functions and competencies of the personnel.
“They are giving us half information. The majority of the staff still expect what was promised to be fulfilled,” said Conasalud spokesmen during the concentration.
Dignal working conditions: Key for an efficient health system
Conasalud stressed that these demands do not constitute privileges, but fundamental labor rights that must be guaranteed with equity, dignity and justice, without exclusion or discrimination.
“Every day of delay means hospitals without sufficient personnel, overloaded services and patients waiting for the attention they deserve,” they said.
The organization argued that respect for health professionals and workers is also a way of respecting the life and fundamental rights of citizens.
Urgently called to the government: health and dignity cannot wait
The organization also reiterated its commitment to the welfare of the population and demanded that the government act with responsibility and urgency.
“A strong health system is only possible if its professionals have fair, safe and stable working conditions,” said María de los Santos.
Finally, the entity called the President of the Republic so that honor signed agreements and materialize the demands required, for the benefit of both health personnel and all of the Dominican society.
