From the industry directive they indicated that the union did not leave guards on the processing line or in the milk reception baysso that “by having the capacity filled” the tank trucks have been diverted to other industrial centers and “some will not be able to unload”.
The workers’ strike took place in the industrial plant that is Conaprole’s main production site. recently there a project was inaugurated to develop nutritional forms, with an investment of US$ 140 million. According to the company, in this place more than 50% of the milk sent by the producers is processed.
They were negotiating
The union action was taken because the employees denounce that the company forced them to take leave. From Conaprole it was said that the license is something that has been negotiated “for two months.”
As explained, of the 30 employees of the production line, 14 agreed to go on leave, another six agreed to remain doing maintenance tasks and “the remaining 10 are the ones who promoted these measures demanding that they be relocated to other sectors of the plant ” . The statement maintains that the cooperative sought to consider the different situations of the workersin case they had “well-founded reasons”.
“It is clear that we are not going to force someone who has a rental in a spa, a scheduled trip or any other personal situation to replan their vacations. It is something that is contemplated. However, we were not presented with any of these situations: they went straight to unemployment, ”said the board.
This Monday, the company and the union met with authorities from the Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MTSS), “with the additional pressure of not having the capacity to process raw materials as a result of the conflict,” added the cooperative. In that meeting, Minister Pablo Mieres proposed suspending the measures of the union for 48 hours to dialogue with the company.
Lay off 10 workers
On the other hand, Conaprole made sure that the union proposed to “cut the contract” of 10 seasonal workers to occupy their posts and avoid taking leave. That idea was dismissed by the cooperative’s Board of Directors.
“It seems unfair, irrational and unfeasible to leave 10 people without work and without insurance (because they do not meet the minimum number of hours contracted for this) due to such an arbitrary situation,” they remarked from the company.
Other conflict and economic losses
This Monday’s strike and the conflict behind it are added to a problem between Conaprole and the workers of the Montevideo Distribution Center due to “an alleged shift change,” Conaprole reported.
In recent days, the MTSS presented two proposals for the two parties to dialogue, the company accepted them and the union did not, indicated the firm, from where it was maintained that the measures “continue to generate enormous economic losses.”
