The National Forestry Corporation (Conaf) announced the creation of an Environmental and Strategic Security Unit to take precautions in the officials who work in its dependencies. This, after the attack registered in the Nahuelbuta National Park, La Araucanía region.
This was confirmed by the executive director of Conaf, Christian Little, who gave his support to the workers who were affected by the arson attack that affected various buildings in the area. Likewise, he indicated that he will appoint an official to coordinate security actions in conjunction with the Presidential Delegation of the region.

“An Environmental and Strategic Security Unit will be created in the corporation, which will also have a professional in this region (La Araucanía) in charge of security issues within the corporation, which is the security of professionals, and also outwards. This will be in permanent coordination with the Delegation, Regional Government, municipalities, companies,” he stated in Radio Bio Bio.
On the other hand, the executive vice president of the Federation of Tourism Companies of Chile, Helen Kouyoumdjian, maintained that “what happened inside the park is a serious and cowardly criminal act, where staff were attacked, offices and cabins were destroyed, affecting to Conaf staff”.
“What happened also demonstrates the lack of security and precariousness with which park rangers often have to work,” he said.
