Competitors from Colombia, Canada and Cuba dominated the different modalities of the VII International Triathlon of Havana.
The event, which was suspended for three years due to the pandemic, had the Colombian María Carolina Velásquez and the Canadian Martin Sobey as winners in the elite category, while the Cuban triathletes prevailed in the different categories of the modality sprint.
Velásquez was crowned champion among the main female triathletes, with a time of 1:59:26 hours. The podium was completed by the Slovakian Ivana Kuriackova (1:59:27) and the Turkish Xisca Tous (1:59:36), as reported the Cuban News Agency (ACN).
Meanwhile, Sobey led the men with a time of 1:43:47 hours, ahead of the American Ka’eo Kruse (1:43:48) and the Mexican Irving Pérez (1:43:53), adds the office.
In the distance sprintthe Cuban Nahomi Hernández (1:06:16) triumphed, who was escorted on the podium by the Dominican Karel Ramírez (1:07:15) and the also Cuban Salamah Mahroos (1:11:10).
Refers the ACN that Cuba also dominated the female categories of 25-29, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54 and 60-64 years, and the male categories of 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30 -34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 55-59, 60-64 and over 70 years.
A total of 26 women and 42 men from America, Europe and Asia participated in the Olympic distances and sprint, adds the outlet, recalling that the first consisted of 1,500-meter swimming, 40-kilometer cycling and 10-kilometer running; while the second had 750 meters swimming, 20 kilometers by bicycle and five kilometers of walking.
The competitions began in the canals of the Marina Hemingway, in western Havana, and ended in the gardens of the Hotel Nacional, in Vedado.
