The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Raúl Latorre, announced a call for a merit-based competition for the hiring of 50 people. In addition, an investigation will be carried out into the cases of payroll. No action will be taken with the appointment of the “sons of”, arguing that the appointments do not represent a form of nepotism.
In a press conference held this morning, Raúl Latorre announced thatyoung people from all over the country will be able to participate in the competition of merits and aptitudes for 50 vacancies in different positions for the Chamber of Deputies.
“These 50 spaces will be generated from the reduction we achieved in the number of trusted contracted personnel”Latorre said.
He also ordered the start of a preliminary investigation into allegations of absenteeism from office.
“We are going to fight against payroll in a frontal manner in our administration, those responsible will be subjected to the summary and the corresponding sanctions,” he claimed.

Without giving room for questions, Latorre introduced lawyer Máximo Medina as the new director of legal advice and interim director of Human Resources to give more details and left, closing the door.
The lawyer stated that, In relation to the children appointed to positions of trust, there is no case of nepotism, taking into account that the person who appointed them, Latorre, is not related to any of them.
He explained that, The person empowered to appoint or hire is the one who can commit nepotism, only if the person appointed is a relative up to the fourth degree of consanguinity or second degree of affinity, facts that are not true with Latorre.
He added that no rules for entering the public service were violated, since, Article 63 of the budget law exempts the Judicial Branch, the Legislative Branch and the auxiliary bodies from compliance with said legislation.
Regarding the payroll workers, he said that he has been instructed to be ruthless with those who are absent from their jobs.
