The Electric Union of Cuba (UNE), the Cuban entity Energoimport, and the Japanese companies Nishizawa Limited and Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation, signed a contract this Thursday in Havana to reinforce the energy matrix of the special municipality Isle of Youthaccording to official media on the island.
According to a report of the Prensa Latina (PL) agency, the Japanese companies will supply a system of fast-discharging batteries that work as frequency regulators in photovoltaic or wind farms, which, together with an Energy Management System (SGE), will contribute to stabilizing electricity supply in the aforementioned Cuban territory.

Likewise, the agreement will promote the use of renewable energywhich will allow a reduction in the emission of polluting gases into the atmosphere, adds the information.
Access to the valuable offer of the Japanese consortium will be possible thanks to the non-reimbursable financial assistance of the International Cooperation Agency of Japanestimated at two thousand 392 million yen (about 17.5 million dollars), details the medium.
During the ceremony, the investment director of the UNE, Amaury Mena, thanked the signatory companies of the agreement and assured that all the conditions have been created at the project site to receive Japanese technology, says PL.
Mena also stressed that the contract opens the final stage for the execution and materialization of the Project to Improve the Supply of Electric Power on the Isle of Youth, whose idea arose in 2017 as part of a Technical Cooperation agreement between the governments of Cuba and Japan, the source points out.
“This is the first experience in this type of facility that we are going to have in the country, which will serve as the basis for introducing it also on the main island,” said the manager, quoted by PL
For his part, the director of Nishizawa Limited, Hitoshi Seko, highlighted the importance of the project and expressed his pride in being part of it. “Together with our partners, we will make an effort to guarantee the success of the initiative,” he said, according to the newspaper.
The director of Toshiba Energy Systems, Shigehiro Kawahara, mentioned that his battery system and SGE have proven to be useful and effective in places with instability in the supply, inside and outside of Japan, specifies PL.
