COTUÍ, Sánchez Ramírez.- Currently hundreds of people from various communities in Cotuí are taking a walk in protest against the Barrick Pueblo Viejo mining company.
During the walk, the protesters raise slogans against the mining company Barrick Pueblo Viejo.
The demonstration seeks to express solidarity with more than 600 families who will be relocated from the vicinity of the gold and silver mine to another area of Sánchez Ramírez.
The relocation process of residents of communities such as El Naranjo, El Higo, Las Tres Bocas, El Rayo, Arroyo Vueltaamong others, was discussed more than two years ago between representatives of the localities and the mining company Barrick Pueblo Viejo. Although initially the agreements were progressing favorably, complications arose related to the evaluations of the prices of the land and plantations of cocoa and other agricultural crops.
