As a result of the fires that affect a large part of the south-central zone of the country, the Government of President Gabriel Boric is considering some ideas to prevent the outbreaks of the incident from reactivating and to prevent new outbreaks from appearing. One of them is the option of decreeing communal curfews.
One of those who commented on the idea is the Minister of Agriculture, Esteban Valenzuelawho in the framework of the coordinated work being carried out by the Executive, one of the collaborators, the Chilean Wood Corporation (Corma), requested the restriction of circulation at the community level.

According to the leader of the entity, Juan José Ugarte to Radio infinitethat “means restricting circulation, it means giving security to the neighbors that, if they have to abandon their property, it will be protected, that the robberies that are already taking place in the homes that have to be evicted do not occur “.
In this regard, the Secretary of State acknowledged that the measure “is not ruled out” and that the Boric administration is “monitoring” it, as they did with another measure that was successful, as decreed in Ñuble with its ban on carrying fuel, unless the person has a safe-conduct that enables the transfer.
However, not everyone agrees with that decision. One of them is the Presidential delegate of the Araucanía region, José Montalva, who assured that decreeing a communal curfew “could be the worst remedy than the disease of the emergency.” This, because he indicated that 29% live in the rural sector and there is an emergency with multiple sources, where in some cases there is a need to evacuate.
“That was one of the issues that was analyzed with all the pertinent institutions, but in a region like La Araucanía where 29% live in the rural sector and, in addition, we are experiencing an emergency with multiple sources and in some cases we need to evacuate, it is not advisable to have a curfew, since it could be the remedy worse than the illness of the emergency,” he said.
