The company Barrick Pueblo Viejo reported that, this Monday morning, it participated in the call made by the authorities to carry out a dialogue around the resettlement project that the company is implementing in the communities of Cotuí.

“The company welcomed the church’s initiative and remains open to dialogue and a fair and equitable resettlement process,” he explained in a statement.

For the past four years, Barrick Pueblo Viejo has been committed to carrying out a comprehensive process of ongoing dialogue with affected communities. “We have worked hard to include residents in decision-making about the new housing construction site, presenting compensation and livelihood restoration plans in detail, following international best practices.

Furthermore, Barrick emphasizes that this is not the first time it has embarked on a resettlement process. The company applies international standards, complying with local legislation and with a compensation framework designed so that affected people can restore their livelihoods in conditions similar to or even better than current ones.

The company highlights that, it is following the best international practices, the process has clear eligibility criteria, which have been widely communicated to the communities involved.
