Committee sets new requirements for election in the Tacna Bar Association

The Electoral Committee of the Tacna Bar Association, chaired by lawyer Miguel Gambetta Ríos, scheduled the elections for the new board of directors and surveillance council for the period 2023-2025 for Thursday, December 22.

Union members observed that the vote takes place on a Thursday, considering that it is a working day and some work outside of Tacna, but Gambetta responded that it is the committee’s power to establish the day and that the members of the order must assume their attendance responsibly.

Committee established new requirements

On the other hand, in addition to the requirements of the statute, the committee through the regulations requests that the candidates present sworn statements of not having a criminal and/or judicial record, not having a conviction for consensual and enforceable family violence; and of not having a consented or enforceable conviction for omission of family assistance.

The head of the electoral committee explained that it seeks to prevent people who could be questioned from assuming the highest position and who put the image of the professional order at risk.

Payment of contributions only 72 hours before

Another novelty in this process will be that payment of contributions will not be accepted on the day of the vote. Only those who are authorized to vote will be able to vote, having paid up to 72 hours before. “You want to avoid the two queues and the disorder that has occurred in other years,” Gambetta justified.

According to the schedule, the registration of lists will be from November 21 to 23, the publication of admitted lists from December 3 to 4, the presentation of strikeouts from December 5 to 6, the publication of suitable candidates on December 13, the presentation and exhibition of candidates on December 16 and the elections and proclamation on December 22 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and the swearing in on January 4, 2023 at 11 a.m.
