The Civic Committee for Santa Cruz offered a press conference where, in addition to confirming the resolutions that emerged in the town hall last Friday and thanking the population for the great call (1,530,000 attendees were counted), it listed the demands that complement the given deadline to the Government to talk about the 2023 census, such as, advance the technical table for the census five days and that it be carried out in Santa Cruz and not in La Paz.
“The council has ordered us to carry out a very important job that leads to a strike if the government, before the 21 days that have been given, does not issue a supreme decree where the census is dated in 2023, annulling the previous decree Y guarantees us that in 120 days (after the national survey) we will have the results and they will be binding on the electoral roll“, President Rómulo Calvo began by declaring. ” I think it is very important that the Government stop being intransigent, stop lying to the country, the president already lied to us when he signed the decree, saying that the census was a national priorityAnd it is not like that.”
“After He has lied to us for a long time, when they did not pass on the information that on November 16 we were going to have a census, which is a lie, after 20 days the shelf is falling, they have not prepared anything, and they want to send a census for 2024, knowing that we have an electoral schedule. Bolivia needs a census this 2023, this council has given us a mandate, and we are going to fulfill that mandate. We are going to an indefinite strike if the Government does not comply with the requests of this great council,” Calvo concluded.
Then, the vice president of the committee, Fernando Larach, took the floor, who listed the following measures:
“First: before invitations to the president of the Committee Civic to participate in debates and other events, this directory considers that this is out of context. Second: the council massive of last Friday, September 30, was absolutely forceful in terms of its mandate, and in the meantime, this civic entity must act accordingly. Third, before said mandate and knowing the call for a technical table in La Paz for October 11, we argue that said meeting I know perform in the city of Santa Cruz on October 6, 2022 in the morning hours”, and conditions were set to establish it.
Said technical table must deal exclusively with the issue of carrying out the census in 2023, it is also required let the meeting be transmitted at the national leveland that the INE (National Institute of Statistics) “make the information transparent by presenting the complete schedule of progress of the census, as well as also the level of budgetary execution of the same”, detailed Larach, adding that International Cooperation must participate in said meeting.
