In the last hours, the supporters of the “Yes” issued a statement referring to “the unfortunate and reprehensible event that occurred on the night of Tuesday the 15th, which occurred on the 26 Rambla descent of the Ciudad de la Costa, department of Canelones, where militants who painted slogans in favor of “Yes” to the annulment of 135 articles of the LUC, they were verbally and physically attacked”.

The “Yes” Commission expressed “its repudiation of this and other attacks, for the sole fact of spreading the reasons for the ‘Yes’ vote”. At the same time they expressed their solidarity with those affected and their families.

They also conveyed their full support for the decision of the Commission for the “Yes” of Canelones to convene a concentration of ‘In Defense of Freedom’, in the place where the events occurred.

hate speech

“We express our concern about actions and public statements from institutional spheres and spokespersons for the ‘No’ campaign that, “by persecuting, disqualifying and aggravating the supporters of ‘Yes’, become an incitement to violence and hatred towards those of us who hold a different vision about the best solutions for the country”, is expressed in the statement.

They assure that the supporters of the “Yes” do not need violence and grievance to defend their points of view, and they emphasize that they have appealed and will continue to appeal to calmly informing the public, convinced of the strength of their reasons.

The “Yes” Commission calls on their militancy to continue as before, “without being intimidated and without falling into provocations, informing the population and defending the reasons that led to calling the referendum and voting ‘Yes’”.

At the same time, they ask the government authorities at all levels and the supporters of the ‘No’, to “repudiate the acts of violence and ensure a serene and democratic debate towards the referendum on March 27”.
