The commerce sector in the Greater São Paulo region lost R$51.7 million due to the lack of electricity recorded this Wednesday (10). The estimate, based on the volume moved daily in the capital of São Paulo and the surrounding area, is from the Gastão Vidigal Institute of Economics, of the São Paulo Commercial Association (IEGV/ACSP).
According to Enel, the energy concessionaire responsible for supplying energy in the metropolitan region of the capital, more than 2 million customers were left without power yesterday (10), when strong winds hit the state due to a cyclone formed on the coast.
According to Ulisses Ruiz de Gamboa, economist at ACSP, the losses are difficult to assess because the effects of the cyclone were not homogeneous in the capital and several regions have not yet had complete restoration of power.
Falling sales
“The impact is mainly due to the reduction in immediate purchases and impulse purchases by consumers,” he said.
This Thursday (11), the Greater São Paulo had moderate winds in the morningwith an average speed of 20 to 30 kilometers/hour (Km/h), well below the more than 98 Km/h recorded yesterday (10). Despite this, a gust of 64.8 km/h was recorded today in the Congonhas Airportin the capital of São Paulo. Several trees fell on vehicles yesterday.
