The ceremony was attended by Mayor Carolina Cosse; the director of the Consultancy for Gender Equality, Solana Quesada; the director of the National Women’s Institute (Mides), Mónica Bottero, together with the president of the Plemuu Foundation, Nelly Fagúndez. The event featured a staging by actress Melanie Antuoni, who interpreted some testimonials of the first calls received. Its purpose was to commemorate the 30 years of operation of the 0800 4141 service, the first telephone service for women in situations of gender violence, with which the Municipality of Montevideo was a pioneer in its implementation.
It was inaugurated in 1992 with the initiative of the social movement and the Women’s Commission. It is currently co-managed with the Mides National Women’s Institute. Next to line *4141 -from Antel or Movistar- this free and confidential service works 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The call made does not appear on the telephone bill and the attention received is given by specialized personnel who provide initial advice and support. Subsequently, this refers the case to the closest psychological or legal services of the State or civil society based on what the applicant has raised.
