Between May 2020 and the same month of 2022, the Commission for the Application of the Investment Law (Comap) received 3,168 investment projects, covered by decree 268/020 and law no. 16,906, Investment and Industrial Promotion. In the first five months of 2022, 353 projects were presented for some 488 million dollars, according to the report released by the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) this Wednesday 22.
The ministry reported that, of the 3,168 projects received in the last two years, 69% correspond to initiatives in departments in the interior of Uruguay, while the remaining 31% are from Montevideo. The investment initiatives presented in that period totaled 2,971 million dollars.
When disaggregated by departments, the capital ranks first in the number of projects presented to Comap, with 1,206 initiatives equivalent to an amount of 923 million dollars. On the list, they are followed by Canelones, with 366 projects, and Colonia with 161.
The document adds that, while 46% of the projects presented correspond to micro, small and medium-sized companies, 54% are from large companies, and total 1,597 million dollars in investment.
In the classification by economic sectors, the MEF reported that 60% of the projects received correspond to the trade and services sector, 25% to the industrial sector, 13% to agriculture and 2% to tourism.
The presentation of the investment projects that the interested parties carry out before Comap is carried out within the framework of decree 268/020, which regulates articles 11 to 19 of the Investment and Industrial Promotion Law, No. 16,906.
