Colorados propose to Cosse to “redesign” the IDB loan to approve it

A few days ago, the Municipality of Montevideo proposed to finance a cleaning and sanitation plan through a $ 70 million loan from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

For this, a special majority of the Departmental Board of 21 votes is required, but the Broad Front has 18.

On Thursday, December 30, the Colorado Party councilors’ bench understood, with nuances, that the Montevideo Mayor’s project should cover more infrastructure and less operating expenses that can be solved with their own money without requesting an international loan.

Notwithstanding this, the Colorado Party is “open to dialogue and wants to open an instance of negotiation with the departmental Executive that contemplates the intention of all the different parties’ benches and achieve a project that is for the benefit of all citizens.”

In this way, the loan would not have the necessary votes due to the refusal of the Colorado Party and the opposite position shown by the nationalists.

Dialogue to approve it

Colorado Party deputy Felipe Schipani said that the Colorado councilors’ bench “ratified the position assumed in the party organization.”

“We share the objectives of the loan, as they are part of a policy promoted by the Ministry of the Environment, chaired by our colleague Adrián Peña. We regret that the Intendancy, knowing that a special majority was required, has not summoned our councilors to participate in the design of the project, “said the Colorado legislator.

However, Schipani invited Mayor Carolina Cosse to set up a negotiating table with all opposition parties to redesign the loan with contributions from all parties, and thus approve it as quickly as possible.
