Colonization will invest about 9 million dollars in rural electrification

The president of the UTE, Silvia Emaldi, and the president of the National Colonization Institute, Julio Cardozo, participated in the signing of the agreement, this Wednesday the 15th at the Palacio de la Luz.

The objective is to regulate the participation of the parties in the execution of infrastructure works for rural electrification, promote development in the productive sectors and improve the quality of life of the beneficiaries, the authorities stressed.

Cardozo considered this agreement historic, which will allow 230 settler families to access electricity. The installations will be carried out in rural areas of the departments of Tacuarembó, Salto, Artigas and Durazno.

Likewise, as provided for in the five-year Colonization project, 25 colonies were selected to be supported by the institution. The actions will also involve the delivery of a computer to each family of settlers, between the remainder of 2022 and 2023, he reported.

For her part, the president of UTE highlighted the importance of institutional coordination and explained that access to electricity will also promote the settlement of people in rural areas.

The Uruguay 100% Electric program foresees that all the inhabitants have energy at the end of the administration, through the laying of traditional networks or the installation of photovoltaic kits, for the generation of solar energy.

By the end of 2022, UTE will have completed some 700 connections to traditional networks, with 300 photovoltaic kits installed, including the families of settlers benefited by the signing of this agreement. For this, the institute will allocate some 9 million dollars and UTE will provide the engineering, purchases and monitoring of the works, Emaldi said.
