Santo Domingo.-Senior and junior officers were suspended and remain under investigation accused of being part of a criminal network that operated within the National Police, which was dedicated to the irregular extraction of ammunition from the institution’s warehouses, with the aim of selling them privately. .
Through an investigation led by State intelligence agencies, the members of that institution were identified, including several colonels whose names were not revealed, who extracted ammunition from the warehouses in violation of protocols.
For this reason, the weapons department of the National Police is under intervention until the investigations are concluded, the findings of which were sent by the Ministry of the Interior and Police to the Public Ministry so that the due legal process can be initiated against those involved.
A source confirmed that representatives of the Public Ministry are carrying out the surveys to implement the case and bring those involved to justice.
Through a statement, the Ministry of the Interior and Police specified that the investigation reflects the depth of the operation and the seriousness with which the Government addresses this type of irregularities within public security institutions.
“This action is part of a firm commitment to legality and the strengthening of justice mechanisms in the Dominican Republic, guaranteeing that those responsible face the consequences of their actions,” according to the statement.
He adds that with the aim of preventing acts of this nature from being repeated in the future, the Ministry of the Interior and Police will implement a joint supervision mechanism with the police to guarantee efficient and safe management of the inventory of equipment and supplies.
This operation, focused on the internal structure of the National Police, is a fundamental pillar in the institutional reform and transformation process that the Government of President Luis Abinader is implementing, responding to the objective of modernizing, transparent and recovering citizen trust.
