Colombia's airports are preparing to receive 7.4 million passengers between December and January: MinTransporte

Colombia expects high air traffic this season; Authorities recommend anticipating trips and consulting official channels.

between the December 5, 2025 and the January 13, 2026the country foresees a significant movement of travelers in its airport network. The authorities estimate that 7.4 million of passengers will transit through national and international air terminals during this period, considered one of the periods with the highest demand in recent years, according to the Ministry of Transportation and the Civil Aeronautics.

The beginning of the massive flow of travelers will be concentrated between December 5 and 9. In those first five days it is estimated 957,736 passengersdistributed in 613,773 on domestic routes and 343,963 on international routes. This figure reflects the beginning of a season that, due to its volume of traffic, requires special operational measures in multiple air terminals.

The most requested destinations within Colombia for this season include Saint Andrew, Cartagena, Saint MarthaMedellín–Rionegro, Cali and Leticia, while the international points with the greatest influx will be Miami, Panama, Madrid, Quito, Lime and Santiago de Chilewith an expected increase towards Buenos Aires and Sao Paulo in the last week of December.

To respond to the volume of travelers, the daily capacity could exceed 127,000 national passengers and more than 73,000 internationalso coordination with airlines, airports, Colombia Migration and the air control system. The entities indicate that they seek to guarantee fluency and security during travel.

The Minister of Transportation, Maria Fernanda Rojaspointed out that this is a season considered historic in terms of traveler projection and referred to the importance of ensuring information and support for users. Among the recommendations issued, it is requested to arrive at least two hours for domestic flights and three hours for international, in addition to verifying the flight status prior to displacement.

Passengers are also invited to review documentationrespect the baggage restrictions and avoid illegal elements. We insist on consulting only official sources and follow the guidelines of the airport staff. Luis Alfonso Martínez Chimenty, general director in charge of Civil Aeronautics, highlighted that inter-institutional coordination seeks to maintain fluid operations and with the least number of effects.

At the same time, the Ministry of Transportation recalled that actions are being developed in road safety next to the National Road Safety Agency. The campaign “Decide well, because life comes first” seeks to reduce road accidents during December trips, promoting responsible decisions behind the wheel.

Civil Aeronautics will continue to monitor real time the behavior of air traffic and will issue updates through its official channels and those of the Ministry of Transportation.
