Colombians will be able to make payments at no cost to any bank with a new system that will be implemented in the country: they gave launch date

In 2024, the Bank of the Republic presented BRE-B, the new system of immediate and interoperable payments in Colombia. This platform will revolutionize the way in which Colombians make bank transfers, allowing rapid and safe transactions between different financial entities in seconds.

Bre-B will be integrated into the existing interoperability services in the country, as transferred, facilitating the sending of money regardless of the bank in which an account is had. This means that users can make digital payments with a single click, without traditional restrictions between different financial institutions.

“One of the great innovations of 2025 will be the arrival of the immediate payment system of the Bank of the Republic. For September, Colombians who have an account in a financial institution will find the Bre-B seal virtually to their account.”

This system is expected to be operated in September 2025 and will be available through the mobile applications of the participating banks and financial entities.

“Bre-B is the new interoperacy immediate payment system in the country, through which Colombians can send money and make payments from any account to any account, at any time of the day and any day of the week,” said Ana María Prieto, Director of Payment Systems of the Bank of the Republic.

Prieto stressed that the objective of BRE-B is to guarantee full operation and universal access to the payment system in Colombia. «Digital payments are a key tool for formalization, financial inclusion and competitiveness. The Bank of the Republic is committed to guaranteeing this interoperability and advancing in the country’s financial digitalization, ”he said.

One of the main benefits of this new system is to eliminate the barriers that currently exist when transferring money between accounts of different entities. “Interoperability will allow anyone to send money in real time, no matter what bank your account has,” Prieto added.

During the first semester of 2025, citizens will be invited to register the key that will serve as an identifier associated with their bank account or deposit. This will be the essential tool to receive immediate and safe payments, thus promoting the modernization of the financial system in Colombia.
