During the presentation of the Platform for Nomination and Accreditation of Electoral Actors in Caracas, the president of the National Electoral Council of Colombia, magistrate Cristian Quiroz, assured that “this tool is launched with a single objective: for electoral witnesses to report what is happening during the day and that after the polls close they can take a photo of the E-14 to send it to their political groups.”
According to a press release, Caracas is the second city abroad that the CNE visits and in which the presentation of this technological tool designed to upload information from electoral witnesses, system auditors and national and international observers is made for the March 8 elections (Congress of the Republic and consultations).
“We seek legitimacy and transparency in these elections,” Quiroz reiterated, pointing out that once the photo of E-14 is taken, “the witness can report it to the political groups, to their candidates, so that each one knows what they have on their table and how many votes they obtained.”
The magistrate also reminded political groups with a presence abroad that the deadline to nominate their electoral witnesses expired yesterday, February 23. These actors perform a fundamental task of inspection, surveillance and control during election day, contributing to the transparency and legitimacy of the process.
The presentation in Venezuela is of special institutional importance, given that it is one of the constituencies with the largest number of Colombian citizens authorized to vote abroad: 56,143 nationals distributed in 81 voting stations. With this socialization, the CNE continues to promote an optimal, fair, democratic, legitimate and transparent electoral process for Colombian citizens abroad, according to the source.
