He President Gustavo Petro met this Friday at Brussels with Manuela Bedoya and Luna Barretothe two Colombian activists released this week after being detained by Israel when they were heading to the Gaza Strip aboard the Sumud Global Fleet.
“These are the Colombians Manuela and Luna who have shown true humanity. Those who, without economic interest, stand in solidarity with the people most sacrificed by greed” wrote Petro in X, where he shared a photograph of the meeting, in which he wore a kufiya (traditional Palestinian scarf).

The two activists were arrested by Israeli forces in international waters while sailing on the Flotilla ship HIOand were held in the Saharonim prison, in southern Israel.
The Foreign Ministry described his arrest as a “kidnapping“and one”violation of international law“.

Bedoya and Barreto were deported to Jordan on Tuesday and, according to Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rosa Villavicenciothey meet “in good health“.

Petro is in Brussels this week, where this Thursday he participated in the II Global Gateway Forum and held meetings with European authorities ahead of the next Celac-EU summit to be held on November 9 and 10 in the Caribbean city of Santa Marta.
