The National Police arrested two Colombian citizens who made topographic measurements on Chinería Island, Loreto region, without the corresponding authorization of the Peruvian State. The intervention was carried out as part of the security reinforcement at the border that unites Peru, Colombia and Brazil.
The intervened, from Bogotá and Leticia, worked with satellite GPS teams and pointed out that they fulfilled work for a Colombian construction company.
“They only sent us to take measurements, we did not know that a special permit was necessary,” He declared one of them. His partner added that his work “It is the same as we did in Colombia ” and denied any irregular activity.
The operation was carried out by twenty troops in the waters of the port of Santa Rosa. Both citizens were transferred to the local police station, where they were informed that all activity in Peruvian territory must be coordinated with the authorities, even in areas with free traffic for residents.
The fact occurs in a context of greater border surveillance, after a recent incident in which a Colombian presidential candidate entered the country to raise the flag of its nation, which generated diplomatic tensions between Lima and Bogotá.
