Colombian police captured five members of the Aragua Train in Bogotá

The Metropolitan Police of Bogotá reported on the morning of this Wednesday, October 16, that, after an operation, the arrest of five members of the Aragua Train was achieved, dedicated to the alleged commission of different crimes, among which extortion and homicide stand out. .

Among those detained in the Aragua Train is the one nicknamed “Bellaco”, supposedly responsible for the throwing of a grenade in the Kennedy sector in mid-September that left at least one person dead and several injured, including police officers.

Likewise, the capture of alias Franchesca, who extorted sex workers in the area of ​​38th Street and Ciudad de Cali Avenue, was achieved. According to the mayor of Bogotá, Carlos Fernando Galán, he charged them 100,000 pesos a month.

“The Police have achieved a very rapid investigation that has reached these five people. That they are responsible for extortion and that they are linked to the so-called ‘Aragua Train’. An organization that has been hit hard this year,” said the mayor.

Likewise, he stressed that the authorities are not going to rest until the criminal gangs that plague the capital of Colombia are dismantled.

For his part, General José Daniel Gualdrón, commander of the Bogotá Metropolitan Police, explained that the arrests of the alleged criminals associated with the Aragua Train were carried out in eight raids where elements associated with Santería, such as candles, prints, were found. and structures.

He said that alias “Giovany”, leader of the Tren de Aragua in Colombia and the right hand of “Niño Guerrero”, left the country but maintains contact with his acolytes via telephone and social networks to continue directing criminal actions.

According to the authorities, so far in 2024, 178 people have been captured (of which 32 are from the Tren de Aragua) for extortion, drug trafficking and illegal possession of weapons.

At the beginning of OctoberTexas Governor Greg Abbott reported that at least 20 alleged members of the Tren de Aragua criminal gang were arrested.

Through his account on X, the Republican governor assured that in his state there will be no tolerance for this type of people. “They are public enemy number one and we will hunt them down and put them behind bars,” he said.

The arrests within the framework of Operation Aurora, according to News4, occurred during a raid on the Palatia apartment complex, located in San Antonio, south Texas. Of the 20 arrested, 19 will face various charges.

The San Antonio Police Department suspects that the empty apartments are used by members of the Aragua Train to direct their actions. The Texas Department of Public Safety, the FBI, the Homeland Security Investigations Division and members of the Texas Anti-Gang Unit also participate in the operation.
