The Colombian Geological Service reported this Wednesday, November 14, that yesterday at 03:50 pm (local time), at the Nevado del Ruiz volcano, there was an increase in seismic activity associated with the movement of fluids inside the volcanic conduits. .
“Some of these seismic signals have been related to the continuous pulsatile emission of gases and ash. Through the cameras installed in the area of the volcano and the reports of inhabitants in the area of volcanic influence and municipalities located in the direction of the wind (southwest and northwest), it has been possible to confirm this phenomenon,” said the entity. scientific.
He highlighted that reports of ash fall were received at dawn today in the municipalities of Dosquebradas, Santa Rosa de Cabal and Pereira (Risaralda) and in the last hours, ash fall has occurred in the municipalities of Manizales and Villamaría (Caldas ) and in the Los Nevados National Natural Park sector.
They affirm that it is not ruled out that the volcano continues emitting gases and ash, which are dispersed according to the prevailing wind regime at the time of emission, or that there is an acceleration of the volcanic process that leads to changes in the level of volcano activity.
«The level of activity of the Nevado del Ruiz Volcano continues in yellow or (III): Changes in the behavior of volcanic activity. The SGC remains attentive to the evolution of the volcanic phenomenon and will continue to report in a timely manner any changes that may arise,” he stressed.
