The former chancellor of Colombia, Marta Lucía Ramírez, questioned President Gustavo Petro for her position in the border conflict with Peru.
Ramírez said the president would be using the territorial dispute as a smoke curtain in front of his internal crisis.
“He uses Peru’s argument to generate unnecessary confrontation. His government has been a failure, has divided the country and now resorts to a nationalist discourse to unify a nation that he himself has polarized,” He affirmed in an interview with Channel N.
Ramírez recalled that the sovereignty about Chinería Island was assigned to Peru in 1929 and that any change must be evaluated within the framework of the Solomon-Lozano Treaty. He proposed that the Mixed Technique Commission established in the Agreement be in charge of resolving the case.
